Yesterday I wrote an article about Tamera Mowry-Housely embracing herself and her natural curls. In that article here, I detailed that her natural hair became damaged due to years of manipulations because of her job as an actress. This led her to cutoff the damage portion of her hair and started the growth process over. This is call the “Big Chop.” While her new hairstyle was met with amazing comments, there were a few disgusting comments on Twitter. This had me thinking about, the power of self-esteem and why it is very important. When you love who you are, you respect others opinion, but you continue to walk with your head high. Unfortunately, not too many people know how to do this which lead to depression because the mean comments hurts. African-Americans wonder why most women do not embrace their natural hair and are faithfully wearing weaves. This happens a lot because of the criticism. Here is a young lady who decided to embrace her natural hair and instead of uplifting her spirits, she was met with mean Tweets. There were a few great Tweets with encouraging words as well. Still on a high from celebrating son Aden second birthday, I doubt it; she’s paying attention to any of this. View the Tweets in the gallery below.
