On Easter Sunday, 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. a retired foundry worker, a father of nine children, 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren was taking his usual daily walks in northeast Cleveland, on E 93rd St, blocks from Lake Erie to collect aluminum cans. Something he frequently do, during his daily walks.
Godwin Sr, was confronted by a disgruntle man known as Steve “Stevie Steve” Stephens while walking down the street in Cleveland.
While on Facebook Live, he said, “Find me somebody I’m about to kill, I’m gonna kill this guy right here." He gets out of his car and said, “The older dude," walked up to Godwin, asks him to “do me a favor” by saying “Joy Lane.” Stephens adds, “Joy Lane—she’s the reason this is about to happen to you.” Godwin responded, "I don't know nobody. He was executed. Godwin was picked at random. We are praying for his family. After the killing, Stephens calmly walked back to his car and drove off, while continuing his conversation on Facebook live.
Before killing Mr. Godwin, Stephens went on a Facebook Live rant about his life. Ironically he works with people with Mental Health issues. He talked about his ex love Joy and how she got him hooked on gambling at the casino image above. He filmed his live session while driving the white Ford Fusion, image above. Stephens was upset that he lost everything due to gambling and after losing it all, he was kicked out of the home he shared with Joy and she left him. Life happens all the time, doesn't give anyone the right to end that frustration, by killing innocent people. Although Stephens said that he killed 13 people on Easter Sunday. Godwin is the only confirmed death at the hands of Stephens.
Stephens ex-love, Joy Lane who is now in protective police custody wrote in a text to CBS, 'We had been in a relationship for several years. I am sorry that all of this has happened. My heart and prayers goes out to the family members of the victim(s). Steve really is a nice guy. He is generous with everyone he knows. He was kind and loving to me and my children. This is a very difficult time for me and my family. Please respect our privacy at this time." She's an Air Force veteran. Stephens blames Joy for his behavior.
Godwin Jr. Spoke to the press. Speaking of his dad, he said his favorite hobby was fishing. His son also said that "his family is still processing what happened and waiting for police to arrest Stephens."
Ironically as stated previously, Stephens is a Case manager at Beech Brook, which is a children's mental health facility in Cleveland. He blames his work environment for driving him to kill people in that video, as well. For 165 years, Beech Brook has been serving Northeast Ohio's most vulnerable children. Today as a leading behavioral health agency, Beech Brook will serve more than 18,000 children and families this year,' the company's website says. Beech Brook touches the lives of children, teens and families through an array of services ranging from prevention, education and early intervention to community-based programming to strengthen and support youth and families."
The amazing organization spokeswoman Nancy Kortemeyer told WOIO-TV, "We are shocked and horrified and we don't know anything more about it. We hope and pray that he is arrested as soon as possible and we hope and pray for a resolution quickly."
Press Conference: Police are still searching for Stephens. "An aggravated murder warrant was issued for his arrest late Sunday night, stating that in addition to those in Ohio, residents of the states of Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana and Michigan are asked to be on alert. Cleveland State University has issued a shelter in place, a campus spokesman told. The university also reportedly sent out a text messages to its students which read: 'Cleveland police are searching for a murder suspect last seen south of Interstate 90 in the area of E93rd.'
He was last seen in shirt above.
We are all hoping that Stephens surrender. Many feel that they cannot find him because he killed himself. Only time will tell. Our condolences to the family.
