Iggy Azalea is the cover girl for #Legend magazine. Azalea looks incredible in the issue and provided updates on the direction of her career. She build her loyal fan base through YouTube by posting her music and videos. She was soon discovered through the network and in 2014, she became internationally known. Name after her dog Iggy and the name of the street she lived on in Australia (Azalea), Azalea debut album, 'The New Classic' recently went platinum. Her first single “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX became an instant hit and shot up the Billboard 100 charts to the number 1 spot. While enjoying the success of Fancy, her featured on Ariana Grande hit song 'Problem' also became a Hot 100 chart topper and was number two. Azalea became the only rapper to reached one and two simultaneously with their debut Hot 100 entries, sharing that title with The Beatles. While being celebrated, winning awards and finally living her dreams, her world took a huge hit when others, especially the African American community did not agree with her success and felt that she was over stepping her boundaries as a "white rapper." The hate towards her was unnecessary because music is universal and no one should have to give up on their dreams due to naysayers.
Azalea looked amazing in this look. While on top of the world, the attacks about her being a "White" rapper continued, so much to the point that Azalea said, she contemplated suicide. She took a year break to gather her thoughts and refocus on her career. She returned this year with her first hit single 'Team.' The 'Baby I got me' line in the hook of the song is amazing and sends an incredible message to her young fans. Informing them that no matter what, you do have yourself to rely on when all else fails.
The stunning beauty did not shy away from giving face and body during the shoot. #Legend magazine asked Azalea, "So what can we expect from this latest offering? “With The New Classic, I was definitely trying to break into the mainstream and the album included what I thought would be successful and what people would gravitate to. With Digital Distortion, rather than following the trend, I was trying to create my own trend. The intention is, ‘hey we live in this digital era, it’s really easy for people to distort your character and let the record show, this is my character that can’t really be twisted’, and I’m trying to sonically give you the vibe of what I would want to represent myself as.”
The interview continue: She still wanted to keep it energetic and fun, mostly because that is what her core fan base – the Azaleans – love about her music. Azalea turned to her top pop influence for lyrical inspiration. “This is funny but I really like the Spice Girls and I did think about them a little bit when writing this album,” Azalea says. “One thing I liked was that they would incorporate made-up words like “zig-a-zig-ah” and leave the meaning open to the listeners. I considered that when writing lyrics, caring not as much what the words mean most of the time but leaving the words open to interpretation.”
Congratulations on all of your success Iggy Azalea. Read the full interview here #Legend
